OTHER NEWS
The Action Group has written to Chris Grayling concerning the closure and the sale. We have asked for a review of the possible
conflicts of interest that have occurred given that the majority of the trustees at PMET were also trustees of VET. We have also
asked that something is done to improve the public accountability of trusts and trustees. We have asked for improved communication
from the Charity Commission, even in their first report on the closure of PM they neglected to mention that the school had already
transferred ownership to VET. Finally we have asked that Section 36 of the Charities Act is reviewed since it appears to sanction
the sale of land for purposes that are expressly not part of a local or county plan. Chris Grayling has passed out comments onto the
Charity Commission and the Department of Justice.
Other organisations and individuals in Ashtead are also becoming involved in the PM debate. Ashtead Residents Association link
straight to our site for information about the sale. Three local papers ran stories last week, the Leatherhead Advertiser ran it as
their second lead story after Foot and Mouth.
